Block of the Week- The Odette Quilt- Week 1
Hi, everyone! Happy New Year and welcome to Week 1 the Odette Quilt Block of the Week! This week we will be working on our first two blocks of the Odette Sampler quilt.

We are diving right in with one easy block and one challenging block (in my opinion).
Block 1 has templates, curves, and appliqué. It's challenging but not as hard as it seems. Have a look at the photo tutorial below.
Block 2 is pretty straight forward and relatively easy. You'll need to know how to make 2 at a time HST and flip and stitch flying geese. So, if you don't know how to do those, look those techniques up before you begin.
Odette Block 1
Download the templates for Block 1 HERE. When you print the templates, make sure there is no scaling and that the 1" test blog actually measures 1".
From the Aqua Floral, cut:
-4- Template C's
From the Turquoise Floral, cut:
-4- Template B's
From the White Background, cut:
-4- Template A's
-4- Template C's
From the Navy Floral, cut:
-1- Template D
1. Lay out the block pieces as shown.
2. Sew one White C and one Aqua C together. Repeat to have 4- CC pieces.
3. Sew the A and B together. Repeat to have 4- AB pieces.
4. Sew 1 CC to 1 AB. Repeat to have 4- CC-AB.
5. Sew the the 4 CC-AB pieces to make a square.
6. Appliqué the Navy template D circle to the middle of the square block.
Make 1 block, 12 1/2" x 12 1/2", including the seam allowance
1. Lay out the block pieces as shown.
2. Sew one White C and one Aqua C together. Repeat to have 4- CC pieces.
3. Sew the A and B together. Repeat to have 4- AB pieces.
4. Sew 1 CC to 1 AB. Repeat to have 4- CC-AB.
6. Appliqué the Navy template D circle to the middle of the square block.
Make 1 block, 12 1/2" x 12 1/2", including the seam allowance
Odette Block 2
From the Yellow, cut:
-4- 4” squares
-4- 3 1/2” squares
From the Gray Floral, cut:
-4- 3 1/2” squares
-2- 4” squares
From the White Background, cut:
-2- 4” squares
-4- 3 1/2” x 6 1/2” pieces
1. Use 2- 4” white and 2- 4” yellow squares to make two at a time HST. Trim each HST to 3.5” square. You will end up with 4 HST total.
Make 4 Yellow & White HSTs, 3 1/2" x 3 1/2", including the seam allowance
2. Use 2- 4” yellow and 2- 4” gray floral to make two at a time HST. Trim each HST to 3 1/2” square. You will end up with 4 HST total.
3. Using the HSTs from step 2, make one pinwheel.
4. Use the 4- 3 1/2” x 6 1/2” white pieces, 4- 3 1/2” gray floral squares, and 4- 3 1/2” yellow squares to make 4 stitch and flip geese. Make sure the gray floral is always on the left and the yellow is always on the right. You will end up with 4 flying geese units.
Make 4 Yellow & Gray HSTs, 3 1/2" x 3 1/2", including the seam allowance
3. Using the HSTs from step 2, make one pinwheel.
Make 1 pinwheel, 6 1/2" x 6 1/2", including the seam allowance
4. Use the 4- 3 1/2” x 6 1/2” white pieces, 4- 3 1/2” gray floral squares, and 4- 3 1/2” yellow squares to make 4 stitch and flip geese. Make sure the gray floral is always on the left and the yellow is always on the right. You will end up with 4 flying geese units.
I just learned of this QAL. Already doing 3, but I love this because of the opportunity to do more curved piecing. Plus it is a crazy beautiful pattern!
