Block of the Week- The Odette Quilt- Week 2

This week we are working on Blocks 3 and 4.  Let's go!


Odette Block 3




From the Navy, cut:
     -3- 4” squares

From the Gray, cut:
     -3- 4” squares

From the Aqua, cut:
     -2- 4” squares

From the White Background, cut:
     -6- 3 1/2” squares
     -2- 4” squares


1.  Use 3- 4” navy and 3- 4” gray squares to make two at a time HST.  Trim each HST to 3 1/2” square.  You will end up with 6 HST total.

                                 Make 6 HSTs, 3 1/2" x 3 1/2", including the seam allowance


2.  Use 2- 4” aqua and 2- 4” white background squares to make two at a time HST.  Trim each HST to 3 1/2” square.  You will end up with 4 HST total.

                                 Make 4 HSTs, 3 1/2" x 3 1/2", including the seam allowance


5.  Gather the remaining 3 1/2" squares and the HSTs and lay the block pieces out as shown in the block picture below and sew the block together.  Sew the block into rows and sew the rows into the block.  Press the seams of each row in alternate directions so that they nest.

Make 1 block, 12 1/2" x 12 1/2", including the seam allowance






Odette Block 4




From the small scale Cream Floral, cut:
     -2- 4” squares, each cut on one diagonals to yield 4 triangles total

From the large scale Cream Floral, cut:
     -2- 7 1/2” squares, each cut on one diagonals to yield 4 triangles total

From the White Background, cut:
     -1- 4 1/4” square
     -2- 5 3/4” squares, each cut on one diagonal to yield 4 triangles total


1.  Gather the 1- 4 1/4” white background square and 4 triangles cut from the small scale cream floral.

Sew a triangle onto each edge of the square- sew two onto opposite edges first.  Then press and trim the dog ears.

Then sew a triangle onto the remaining two, opposite edges.  Press.


Trim this piece to measure 5 3/4" x 5 3/4" square, including the seam allowance.


2.  Gather the 4 triangles cut from the white background.

Repeat the process shown above.  Sew a triangle onto each edge of the square- sew two onto opposite edges first.  Then press and trim the dog ears.  Sew the last 2 triangles onto the remaining two, opposite edges of the square.


 Press and trim the piece to measure 8 1/2" x 8 1/2", including the seam allowance.



2.  Gather the 4 triangles cut from the large scale cream floral print.

Repeat the process shown above.  Sew a triangle onto each edge of the square- sew two onto opposite edges first.  Then press and trim the dog ears.  Sew the last 2 triangles onto the remaining two, opposite edges of the square. 


 Press and trim the piece to measure 12 1/2" x 12 1/2", including the seam allowance.


Make 1 block, 12 1/2" x 12 1/2", including the seam allowance
