We are diving right in with one easy block and one challenging block (in my opinion).

Block 1 has templates,  curves, and appliqué.  It's challenging but not as hard as it seems.  Have a look at the photo tutorial below.

Block 2 is pretty straight forward and relatively easy.  You'll need to know how to make 2 at a time HST and flip and stitch flying geese.  So, if you don't know how to do those, look those techniques up before you begin.

Odette Block 1

Download the templates for Block 1 HERE.  When you print the templates, make sure there is no scaling and that the 1" test blog actually measures 1".

From the Turquoise Floral, cut:
     -4- Template B's

5.  Sew the the 4 CC-AB pieces to make a square.

6.  Appliqué the Navy template D circle to the middle of the square block.

                                   Make 1 block, 12 1/2" x 12 1/2", including the seam allowance

Odette Block 2

     -4- 3 1/2” x 6 1/2” pieces

1.  Use 2- 4” white and 2- 4” yellow squares to make two at a time HST.  Trim each HST to 3.5” square.  You will end up with 4 HST total.

Make 4 Yellow & White HSTs, 3 1/2" x 3 1/2", including the seam allowance

2.  Use 2- 4” yellow and 2- 4” gray floral to make two at a time HST.  Trim each HST to 3 1/2” square.  You will end up with 4 HST total.

Make 4 Yellow & Gray HSTs, 3 1/2" x 3 1/2", including the seam allowance

3.  Using the HSTs from step 2, make one pinwheel.

Make 1 pinwheel, 6 1/2" x 6 1/2", including the seam allowance

4.  Use the 4- 3 1/2” x 6 1/2” white pieces, 4- 3 1/2” gray floral squares, and 4- 3 1/2” yellow squares to make 4 stitch and flip geese.  Make sure the gray floral is always on the left and the yellow is always on the right. You will end up with 4 flying geese units.

5.  Lay the block pieces out as shown in the block picture below and sew the block together.

Make 1 block, 12 1/2" x 12 1/2", including the seam allowance

  1. I just learned of this QAL. Already doing 3, but I love this because of the opportunity to do more curved piecing. Plus it is a crazy beautiful pattern!
