This week we are working on Blocks 7 and 8.  Let's go!

Odette Block 7

Download the templates for Block 7 HERE.  When you print the templates, make sure there is no scaling and that the 1" test blog actually measures 1".

NOTE: When I make dresden petals and dresden centers, I use no-melt mylar template.  The instructions below are for that method.  However, you can use another method if desired.

From the 12 different prints, cut:
-1- dresden petal template with the 1/4" seam allowance

From the White Background, cut:
     -1- 12 1/2" x 12 1/2" square
-1 center dresden template (don't forget to add the seam allowance)

No-melt Mylar template

1. Cut out the templates.  Make one mylar template using the dresden petal template with no seam allowance to make it.

2.  Trace the dresden petal template with 1/4" seam allowance onto the wrong side of the print fabric.  Cut out the petals.

3.  Spray the cut out fabric petal with starch.  Set the mylar template in the center of the petal.  Use an iron to press the edge of the fabric over the edge of the mylar template.  You are only pressing the rounded petal portion over the mylar.  Repeat with all 12 petals.

4.  Sew the petals together into a circle and press.

5.  Applique (machine or hand) the dresden to the 12 1/2" x 12 1/2" white background square.

6.  Prepare the dresden center and appliqué it to the center of the dresden.  (If you need a reference as to how to make the dresden center, see my Story Highlight on Instagram called 'Dresden Centers'- HERE).

Make 1 block, 12 1/2" x 12 1/2", including the seam allowance

Odette Block 8

From the Yellow, cut:
     -6- 3” squares

From the Turquoise, cut:
     -4- 2 1/2” squares
     -4- 2 1/2” x 4 1/2" pieces
     -2- 3” squares

From the White Background, cut:
     -8- 3” squares
     -1- 4 1/2” square
     -4- 2 1/2” x 4 1/2" pieces

1.  Use 6- 3” white and 6- 3” yellow squares to make two at a time HST.  Trim each HST to 2 1/2” square.  You will end up with 12 HST total.

                                 Make 12 HSTs, 2 1/2" x 2 1/2", including the seam allowance

2.  Use 2- 3” white and 2- 3” turquoise squares to make two at a time HST.  Trim each HST to 2 1/2” square.  You will end up with 4 HST total.

 Make 4 HSTs, 2 1/2" x 2 1/2", including the seam allowance

3.  Use 1- 4 1/2” x 4 1/2" white square and 4- 2 1/2” x 2 1/2" turquoise squares to make a diamond in the square block (using the easy corner triangle method).

 Make 1- 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" piece, including the seam allowance

4.  Lay the block pieces out as shown in the block picture above and sew the block together.

Make 1 block, 12 1/2" x 12 1/2", including the seam allowance

See you back here next week to work on Blocks 9 & 10.  Let me know if you have any other questions!

Talk to you soon,

Jessica
