Block of the Week- The Odette Quilt- Week 6



Welcome to Week 6 of the Odette Quilt Block of the Week!

This week we are working on Blocks 11 and 12.  Let's go!



Odette Block 11




From the Navy, cut:
     -1- 7 1/2” square, cut on both diagonals to yield 4 triangles

From the Turquoise, cut:
     -2- 7” square, each cut on one diagonal to yield 2 triangles per square (4 triangles total)

From the White Background, cut:
     -1- 7 1/2” square, cut on both diagonals to yield 4 triangles

1.  Using 4 navy triangles and 4 white triangles to make the triangle unit shown below.  Repeat to make a total of 4 triangle units.

Make 4 triangle units

2.  Use the triangle units made in step 1 and the 4 turquoise triangles to make the unit shown below.  Repeat to make a total of 4 units.  Trim each unit to measure 6 1/2" x 6 1/2".


 Make 4 units, 6 1/2" x 6 1/2", including the seam allowance


3.  Lay the block pieces out as shown in the block picture above and sew the block together.


Make 1 block, 12 1/2" x 12 1/2", including the seam allowance




Odette Block 12




From the Yellow, cut:
     -1- 6 1/2” square
     -2- 4” squares

From the Aqua, cut:
     -8- 3 1/2” squares

From the White Background, cut:
     -4- 3 1/2” squares
     -2- 4” squares
     -4- 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" pieces

1.  Use 2- 4” white and 2- 4” yellow squares to make two at a time HST.  Trim each HST to 3 1/2” square.  You will end up with 4 HST total.


                                 Make 4 HSTs, 3 1/2" x 3 1/2", including the seam allowance

2.  Use 8- 3 1/2” aqua squares and 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" white pieces to make four stitch and flip flying geese.  


 Make 4 stitch and flip flying geese, 3 1/2" x 6 1/2", including the seam allowance

3.  Use the 6 1/2” yellow square and 4- 3 1/2” white squares to make a diamond in the square as shown below (use the easy corner triangle method).


Make 1, 6 1/2" x 6 1/2", including the seam allowance


4.  Lay the block pieces out as shown in the block picture above and sew the block together.


Make 1 block, 12 1/2" x 12 1/2", including the seam allowance
