Block of the Week- The Odette Quilt- Week 8

This week we are working on Blocks 15 and 16.  Let's go!



Odette Block 15



From the Navy, cut:
     -2- 4” squares

From the Gray, cut:
     -3- 4” squares

From the Yellow, cut:
     -1- 6 7/8” square, cut on one diagonal to yield 2 triangles total

From the Cream Floral, cut:
     -2- 3 7/8” squares, each cut on one diagonal to yield 4 triangles total
     -1- 4” square

From the White Background, cut:
     -4- 3 1/2” squares

1.  Use 2- 4” gray and 2- 4” navy 2 squares to make two at a time HST.  Trim each HST to 3 1/2” square.  You will end up with 4 HST total.

                                 Make 4 HSTs, 3 1/2" x 3 1/2", including the seam allowance

2.  Using the navy/gray HSTs from step 1 and 4- 3 1/2” x 3 1/2” solid white squares. Make the unit shown below.  Each unit should measure 6 1/2” x 6 1/2”, including the seam allowances.  Make a total of 2 units.


                                 Make 2 units, 6 1/2" x 6 1/2", including the seam allowance

3.  Use 1- 4” gray and 1- 4” cream print square to make two at a time HST.  Trim each HST to 3 1/2” square.  You will end up with 2 HST total.

                                 Make 2 HSTs, 3 1/2" x 2 1/2", including the seam allowance

4.  Using the gray/cream print HSTs from step 3, the two yellow triangles that were cut from the 6 7/8” squares, and 4 cream print triangles that were cut from the 3 7/8” squares, make the unit as shown below.  Each block should measure 6 1/2” x 6 1/2”, including the seam allowances.  Make a total of 2 units.

5.  Lay the block pieces out as shown in the block picture below and sew the block together.


Make 1 block, 12 1/2" x 12 1/2", including the seam allowance



Odette Block 16




From the Navy, cut:
     -4- 3 1/2” x 6 1/2" pieces

From the Aqua, cut:
     -8- 3 1/2” squares

From the White Background, cut:
     -4- 3 1/2” squares
     -1-6 1/2” squares

1.  Use 4- 3 1/2” x 6 1/2" navy pieces and 8- 3 1/2” aqua squares to make four stitch and flip flying geese.  Each flying geese unit will measure 3 1/2" x 6 1/2".  You will end up with 4 total.

                                 Make 4 HSTs, 3 1/2" x 6 1/2", including the seam allowance


2.  Lay the block pieces out as shown in the block picture below and sew the block together.

Make 1 block, 12 1/2" x 12 1/2", including the seam allowance
