Free Pattern- You are my Sunshine pillow

Last week I shared my Sunshine pillow as part of the Shades of Summer blog tour.  Making this pillow was a really bright part of my week and I love seeing this happy pillow on my couch.  Today, I'm sharing the free tutorial for this pillow so you can make one too!

2 yellow fat quarters (you won't use all of both fat quarters)
4 low volume fat quarters (you won't use the whole fat quarter but a fat eighth is too small for one of the templates)
1 fat quarter for the backing
5” x WOF Binding
21" zipper
18” x 18” The Warm Company Warm & White batting
SUNHINE TEMPLATES- Part 1 and Part 2

Read through the instructions before beginning

HST means half square triangles
Visit and go to the Pattern Corrections tab to see if there have been any corrections made to this pattern.

Yellow Border (from one of the yellow fat quarters)-
         -cut 2- 1 1/2” x 14 1/2" strips
         -cut 2- 1 1/2” x 16 1/2" strips

Low Volume Border (from one of the low volume fat quarters)-
         -cut 2- 1 1/2” x 16 1/2" strips
         -cut 2- 1 1/2” x 18 1/2" strips

Using the Sunshine Templates (link above in the materials):
From EACH of 4 different low volumes,
                         -1 'A'
                         -2 'D'
                         -1 'B'
                         -1 'F'

     From one Yellow fat quarter,
                         -4 'E'

From the second Yellow fat quarter,
                         -cut 12 'C'

         -cut 2- 2 1/2" x 43/44" strips; set aside to make binding

To make one quarter of the sun block, lay out the pieces needed-

Sew together the white 'B', yellow 'C', white 'D', yellow 'C', white 'D', yellow 'C', and white 'F'.  Be sure to keep 1/4" seam allowance.  Press.

Then, sew the piece you just made to the yellow 'E'.  Press.  Next, sew the unit you just made to the white 'A'.  This 1/4 sun block should measure 7 1/2", including the seam allowance.

Repeat these steps 3 more times to make a total of 4- 1/4 sun blocks.

Sew the 4- quarter sun blocks together.

Sew the yellow 2- 1 1/2” x 14 1/2" strips to the sides of the sun.  Press.  Sew the yellow 2- 1 1/2” x 16 1/2" strips to the top and bottom.  Press.

Sew the white 2- 1 1/2” x 16 1/2" strips to the sides of the sun.  Press.  Sew the white 2- 1 1/2” x 18 1/2" strips to the top and bottom.  Press.

Baste and quilt the pillow top using your preferred methods.  Prepare the pillow back.  I have a video tutorial on my Instagram highlights that shows the way I make mine- here- but you can prepare yours any way you'd like.

For the binding fabric, join the 2- 2 1/2" strips together lengthwise.  Bind using your preferred method.

Post your progress and finished quilt on Instagram, I’d love to see!   Tag me @jessicadayon and use the hashtags- #youaremysunshinepillow #jessicadayonpatterns
