Let's get to the fun stuff!! Here is a look at the quilts we will be making-
I'm going to be going with a patriotic-ish theme. I'm using Mackinac Island by Minick & Simpson.
Amber is going to be making a scrappy blues version. Here is a look at the version she will be making-
This quilt has three unique 6" finished blocks plus cornerstones, sashing, and borders. It measures 60 3/8" x 60 3/8".
I'm giving the fabric requirements below but, keep in mind, because the blocks are small, this would be a great pattern to use to dig into your scraps!!
For the blocks, you will need-
2 fat quarters light colored fabric
3 fat quarters medium colored fabric
3 fat quarters dark colored fabric
5 fat quarters background fabric*
For the setting, borders, binding, and backing, you will need-
2 3/8 yards background fabric*
1/4 yard blue print for the cornerstones
1/4 yard blue print for the cornerstones
7/8 yard border fabric
5/8 yard binding fabric
3 3/4 yards backing fabric
*The background fabric amount are separated in case you'd like to use scrappy backgrounds in your blocks or background that is different from your sashing. However, you want to use continuous background throughout, you'll need 3 5/8 yard background fabric.
So, start getting ready for a fun QAL! We have two weeks until we begin the QAL so start getting your fabric ready!
We'd love to see your fabric pulls and your progress through the QAL, so if you are on Instagram, use the hashtag #willowqal
Let me know if you have any other questions!
Talk to you soon,
Jessica
This is a beautiful quilt and I love the meaning behind the name. I’d love to make it a queen sized quilt. I know I could make more 6 in blocks but am wondering about making 10 or 12 in blocks? What do you think?
