Announcing the 2026 Scrappy Sampler Block of the Week
I try to change something about the quilt along each year so that we get to work on something new together. This year, our quilt has 12" blocks! I've had many requests for 12" blocks and I'm excited to have designed this quilt that uses them.
For as long as I have been doing this quilt along, I have made it a mystery quilt along. This year, that remains the same. You will not know what the blocks (except for the one pictured above!) or the quilt looks like before starting but I can tell you that I am in love with this design!
This quilt along will be free for the duration of the quilt along. Each week during the quilt along, I will release 2 block patterns (for a total of 16 unique blocks), then eventually setting and assembly patterns. You will need to download the patterns each week. Once the quilt along is over, the pattern will then be put in my shop as a for purchase pattern. I cannot send you parts that you missed during the quilt along so please download the patterns as they are released and save them to your computer so that you have them.
There is no sign up for this quilt along. Simply follow along here or on my YouTube channel. I will be having weekly, real-time tutorial videos there during the quilt along to show exactly how to make each block.
There are 3 size options-
1. Small throw- finishes at 63 1/2" x 63 1/2"
This size uses 9 blocks. You pick the blocks that you'd like to make and use them in your quilt. Note for this size, to get the pieced border to work, there is one border that is very small- finishes at 1/2". If want to make this small size but are nervous about the border, you could leave out the pieced border and just add a regular border. I do think the pieced border makes the quilt really special though.
2. Large throw- finishes at 80 1/2" x 80 1/2"
This size uses 16 blocks. You can make one of each of the 16 block patterns that I will be sharing or you can pick and choose from the blocks to make a total of 16.
3. Queen/King- finishes at 97 1/2" x 112 1/2"
This size uses 30 blocks. You'll need to make more than one of most of the 16 block patterns that I have designed.
While I will be making the all of the blocks for my quilt, you can pick and choose to make whatever ones you'd like and the amount of each depending on the size quilt you are making. If you don't like a certain block, you can make a different one twice or substitute another one entirely.

Now, let's talk fabric requirements! For the scrappy samplers that I plan each year, it is hard to give an exact, one-size-fits-all fabric requirement. If you are doing scrappy-style, you would just need to total your scrappy bits up the amounts below. Keep in mind, you may need slightly more or less than noted below depending on what blocks you make. But, below is a general idea of what you'll need.
1. Small throw- finishes at 63 1/2" x 63 1/2"
You'll need roughly- 3 1/4 yards white
3 1/2 yards blue
4 yards backing
5/8 yard binding
2. Large throw- finishes at 80 1/2" x 80 1/2"
You'll need roughly- 4 1/2 yards white
5 yards blue
7 1/2 yards backing
3/4 yard binding
3. Queen/King- finishes at 97 1/2" x 112 1/2"
You'll need roughly- 6 1/2 yards white
7 1/2 yards blue
10 1/8 yards backing
1 yard binding
I think that covers it! Let me know if you have any questions. If you'd like to share your work on Instagram, we will be using the hashtags- #2026scrappysampler and #jessicadayonpatterns
I'm really looking forward to this and I hope you are too!
Thanks for sewing with me!
