Riley Blake Designs Blog Tour: Liberty Winterbourne

Hi, Everyone!  Today is my turn on the Riley Blake Designs Blog Tour for Liberty Fabrics Winterbourne collection.

Like so many people, I love Liberty Fabrics and this collection is no different.  I love the combination of the florals and dark blue, teal, and plum colors along with the softer pinks and grays.  This collection also has some really pretty low volume prints.

The quilt I made was inspired by the Prism Quilt from Purl Soho.  However, I altered the dimensions to make it bigger and didn't use any half square triangles, just easy corner triangles.

For this quilt top, I used:
-1 fat quarter bundle of Liberty The Winterbourne Collection
-Background- Confetti Cottons Le Creme (SKU C120-LECREME)
-Binding- Liberty Winterbourne Collection Primula Posey A (SKU 04775735A)
-Backing- Confetti Cottons Pewter (SKU C120-PEWTER)

To start, I cut-
    24- 6 1/2" x 42" strips, crosscut into 143 squares, 6 1/2" x 6 1/2"

Then I sorted the Liberty by color.  I cut 3 1/2", 4 1/2", and 5 1/2" squares from each print.  Then using each print square cut, I used the easy corner triangle method and sewed them to the 143 white squares- sewing each one in the lower right corner of a white square.  Then I trimmed the excess away, pressed, and assembled the top.

My quilt is laid out 11 squares across by 13 squares down.

Finally I added borders.  To account for the way that the print fabrics are all in the lower right corner, I added a larger border to the right side of the quilt and the bottom of the quilt and then added a smaller border to the left side and the top.

For the right and the bottom, I used a 2" border (4- 2 1/2" x 42" strips, pieced to fit the quilt) and for the left and top, I used a 1" border (4- 1 1/2" x 42" strips, pieced to fit the quilt).

This quilt measures 69 1/2" x 81 1/2".

For the batting, I used:
Warm 100 (you can see more on this batting HERE -it is one of my favorite battings)

I used my Janome Memory Craft 6700P to sew this quilt. And, Quilting by David quilted it using Loop the Loop (from Urban Elementz).

Talk to you soon,

Jessica
