Holly Jolly Block of the Week using Riley Blake Designs Holly Holiday Fabric!

Hello, Everyone!  Welcome to the information post for the Holly Jolly Block of the Week!  I love sampler quilts so much and I'm excited to sew this Christmas-y one with you!

Let me give you the basic information!  The Holly Jolly Block of the Week will start May 14th.  There will be a new block(s)/assignment every week for 26 weeks.  The weekly block assignments will start the week of May 14th and run through the week of October 29th.  Assembly directions will be given November 5th.

I will give all block patterns and assembly instructions here on my blog.  This block of the week is completely free.  Each week during the block of the week, I will have a downloadable PDF for you posted here on my blog with the instructions for the week.  The Holly Jolly quilt measures 74 1/2" x 84 1/2".

Use the hashtag #hollyjollybotw and #jessicadayonpatterns to share your progress.

To make my Holly Jolly Block of the Week, I am using Holly Holiday by Christopher Thompson for Riley Blake Designs.  This collection is so gorgeous and festive.  You can find the Holly Holiday Storyboard- HERE- to see the collection in detail.  And, here is good look at it too!

Here is what you need to make the Holly Jolly Block of the Month-

Holly Jolly Block of the Month: Materials Needed
9 red fat quarters
6 pink fat quarters
8 green fat quarters (a mix of light and dark greens)
6 black fat quarters
5 yards white background
1 yard red print for border
2/3 yard binding fabric
5 1/8 yards backing fabric (43/44" width)

*Please note: Since this is a block of the week and each block will be cut separately, you may need slightly more or slightly less fabric than is listed here.  It greatly depends on your fabric placement in each block and the way you cut your fabric.  In case you run out of print fat quarters, be prepared for the possibility of needing to add more fat quarters or some coordinating basics fat quarters to fill in any gaps in colors, if they occur.

Talk to you soon,

Jessica

  1. You mentioned you were using additional Riley Blake Design Basics. How much of each of those fabrics is needed?

    1. The fabric requirements in the post are roughly the minimum needed to make the quilt. I'm just adding those basics into my quilt as part of those fabric requirements. I'm probably using a scrappy low volume background and I know that if I run out of what I have, I don't mind getting some more basics to fill in the missing spots. You can add in the basics in fat quarters or at whatever size you want to meet the minimum requirements or you can use as many prints as you want (and have more than the fabric requirements) to make it as scrappy as you want (and know you'll have leftover fabric to add to your stash).

  2. so for the fabrics, you pick i.e. 9 red fat quarters from the Holly Jolly collection that are primarily red in color - so maybe some duplicate fabrics of the reds or whatever color because I only see 4 fabrics that are primarily red??????

    1. You can add in more red basics or any other reds that you'd like or you can you duplicate fabrics from the collection to make up the fabric requirements. Personally, I love Riley Blake's Red Swiss Dot (C670-80 Red), Red Texture (C610-Red), Red Kisses (C210-Red), Cayenne Cross Stitch (C745-Cayenne), and Confetti Cotton Riley Red (C120-Rileyred).
