Icicles Quilt Along- Week 4- Making the Alternate Blocks

Hello, Everyone!  Welcome to week 4 of the Icicles quilt along!  Up to this point we have completed all of our dresen plate blocks and we are moving onto our alternate blocks this week.

If you didn't see the information post that I wrote about this quilt along, you can find that here.  The Icicles quilt pattern can be found in my book- Season to Taste: Quilts to Warm Your Home All Year Long-

You can buy it from:    Amazon

                                    Martingale

                                    Fat Quarter Shop

Here is what the original Icicles quilt looks like-

Here is the schedule we will follow during our quilt along.

Icicles Quilt Along
Week 4- November 26- Make the alternate blocks
Week 5- December 3- Make the setting triangles
Week 6- December 10- Make the corner triangles and assemble the top

This week, in week 4, we are making the alternate blocks.  After 3 weeks of prepping and making our dresden plates, we are moving onto some very straight forward machine piecing!

I like to make these in batches.  First I start by cutting all of the pieces needed for the blocks (cutting directions are in the Icicles pattern).

Next, I assemble the 16-patches.

Then I add the outer portion to the 16 patches.

That's it!!  Quite a bit simpler and faster than last week!

See you back here next week for week 5!  You can the hashtags #iciclesquilt #seasontotastequiltbook and #jessicadayonpatterns to share your progress.  Happy sewing!

Talk to you soon,

Jessica
