Free Quilt Pattern: Fanlight Quilt

Today, I am excited to re-release my Fanlight Quilt pattern as a free pattern!  I designed, made, wrote, and released this pattern last summer but as I am transitioning my patterns to free patterns some have gotten set aside until I am ready to re-release them as free ones.  Well, the time has come for this pattern to be re-released!

This pattern is made with a layer cake plus background and borders.  Everyone I hear from says that they love using layer cakes (10" squares) and that they are always looking for more layer cake patterns and I agree!  I find myself gravitating toward that specific precut pretty often but then I just hang on to them.  Well, one of the many things I love about this pattern is that you can show off the gorgeous prints in the layer cake in relatively large blocks...perfect when you really what the fabric to be the star!

To make this version of the quilt, I used Feed Sacks: True Blue by Linzee Kull McCray for Moda Fabrics + Supplies.  I just adore Linzee's fabric lines!  I loved the prints in this line so much but one thing that really connected me to the fabric is something Linzee wrote on the fabric swatch page.  It said,

"Imagine growing your own vegetables and canning them, cleaning and cooking without modern appliances, and sewing clothes for your seven children. Feed Sacks: True Blue pays homage to the women who did all that and still took the time to stitch rickrack on a dishtowel, embroider a sweet bunny on the bodice of a baby’s romper, and use up every last scrap to create a quilt of warmth and beauty."

This quote speaks to my heart and it makes the fabric speak to my heart even more.

I also made a Christmas version of this quilt using Swell Christmas by Urban Chiks for Moda Fabrics + Supplies.

I hope you all make at least one of these quilts!  It really is a fun one to make and use!

As always, I've worked really hard to give you an easy-to-follow pattern.  This, and all of my patterns, include with step-by-step photos for making the quilt.  I hope you love this pattern as much as I do!

This pattern is no longer free and will be available for purchase in my shop soon.
