The Betsy Quilt Along

Hi, Everyone! Welcome to the informational post about my newest quilt along- the Betsy Quilt Along!  You all know that I love running quilt alongs so I'm really excited about this!!  And, this time, it will be another two color quilt along (the first two color one I hosted was On Point in January 2019)!

The quilt along will be free and all of the patterns/posts will be here on my blog.

I'll also be sharing progress on Instagram- @jessicadayon and we will be using the hashtag #thebetsyquilt

This quilt along will last for 6 weeks and will start June 4th.  Here is the schedule that we will follow.

The Betsy Quilt Along Schedule

May 12th (today)- Betsy QAL Information Post
Week 1- June 4th- Nine Patches
Week 2- June 11th- Mary Blocks
Week 3- June 18th- Dorothy Blocks
Week 4- June 25th- Florence Blocks
Week 5- July 2nd- Cut the setting units/catch up week
Week 6- July 9th- Assemble the quilt top

The Betsy quilt measures 85 3/8" x 85 3/8".

Let's look at some color options!  I am going to make my quilt with an aqua background and white blocks.  Like this-

Here is yellow background with white blocks (I kept going back to this one because I ❤ yellow but decided to do aqua for my daughter's bed)-

Here is navy background with white blocks-

Here is pink background with white blocks-

Here is red background with white blocks-

Let's reverse the colors and here is white background with yellow blocks-

To make the solid two-color Betsy quilt, you'll need:

7 1/4 yards of the Main Color (that would be the background color)
3 yards of the Accent Color (that would be the block color)
5/8 yard binding
2 3/4 yards wide back fabric (that's 108" width wide back fabric) -OR- 7 1/2 yards backing fabric (that's standard 43/44" width fabric)

Another FUN idea of this quilt along is to make scrappy two color version!  The mock up below is solid red and white.  But, I am going to be making a second version during the quilt along using scrappy reds and a solid white!

I made my Peppermint Stars quilt using scrappy reds and solid white and I just love how it turned out so I'm excited to do another in this same method!!  See below in case you don't remember Peppermint Stars!

But, back to the Betsy Quilt Along!  If you want to do a scrappy version, here's what you'll need!

To make this scrappy two-color Betsy quilt, you'll need:

35 scrappy assorted fat quarters of the Main Color (that would be the background color- red here)
3- 3/4 yard cuts of three different reds
3 yards of the Accent Color (that would be the block color- white here)
5/8 yard binding
2 3/4 yards wide back fabric (that's 108" width wide back fabric) -OR- 7 1/2 yards backing fabric (that's standard 43/44" width fabric)

I'm deciding on my fabric now and as soon as I have it all in order, I'll do another post to show you what I'm using!

I can hardly wait to get started!!  I do hope you'll join me in this fun sew along!  I'd appreciate it if you could spread the word about this free quilt along!

Just let me know if you have any other questions!

Talk to you soon,

Jessica

  1. Will this be accessible even after the 6 weeks? It just came across my FB feed, and I want to participate at my fabric shop. However, I am moving the shop this weekend and need a couple more weeks to settle in before starting.
