The Betsy Quilt Along- Week 4

Hi, Everyone! Today starts the fourth week of the Betsy Quilt Along!

The Betsy quilt measures 85 3/8" x 85 3/8".  This quilt along will be free and all of the patterns/posts will be here on my blog.

I'll also be sharing progress on Instagram- @jessicadayon- and we will be using the hashtag #thebetsyquilt

The Betsy Quilt Along Schedule

Week 4- June 25th- Florence Blocks
Week 5- July 2nd- Cut the setting units/catch up week
Week 6- July 9th- Assemble the quilt top

For this week, we are making eight Florence blocks.

The Florence Block- we will be making 8 of these

To make the Florence blocks, there are PDF directions below but, in addition, here are a few of the tips that I use when piecing these blocks.

We are making quite a few stitch and flip geese this week.  You can google how to or watch a video on YouTube if you aren't familiar with this method.  And, you can also read my tips from last week on the flying geese- here.

Here are the photos on how to make the small stitch and flip corners in case you need them-

Gather 1- 5 1/2" blue square and 1- 2" white square

Sew from the top left corner of the white square to the bottom right corner of the white square.

Trim away the excess, leaving 1/4" seam allowance.
Press open carefully so as not to distort the corner.

That's it for today!  Next week, we have an easy week.  It is a catch up week and we will also cut the setting triangles (if you haven't already).

This pattern is no longer free and will be available for purchase in my shop soon.

Just let me know if you have any other questions!  Happy sewing!

Talk to you soon,

Jessica

  1. Thank you! I fell behind right away, which I knew would happen with time constraints, but hope to finish by summer's end. This is such a pretty quilt!
